San Francisco makes Al Fresco Dining into Permanent Program

On July 13th, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors voted 7-4 to accept the Planning Department’s recommendations to make Al Fresco Dining, also known as Shared Spaces, into a permanent program. The proposal is still somewhat of a flawed compromise, given that it could cost upwards of $20,000 to fix local parklets.

Under the legislation, fees will not be collected for Shared Spaces for a period of two years. After that, chain stores will be required to pay a fee of $3,000/year while small businesses may apply for a fee waiver.
